We have been proudly serving the Tampa Bay Area for over a dozen years, constantly improving our operations to provide food that tastes great, is filling and is as close to authentic as you can find anywhere in the area. Owner Rene Valenzuela is a traditoinal Mexican Chef, relying on hundreds of years of recipes that have been passed down through the generations. This food takes time and dedication to get right and the owner and team at Taqueria Monterrey are dedicated to providing world class customer service and food quality at a surprisingly low price.
The food that Taqueria Monterrey produces is considered “Mexican Street Food”, a celebration of the hard work and on-the-go lifestyle that is the very spirit of Mexico. The food is served hot and ready to eat, though you’re always welcome to take your meal to go.
The Salsa Bar
Along with our exceptionally prepared authentic Mexican dishes, we offer a comprehensive line of salsas and toppings, free with any meal. This salsa bar, a help-yourself island, has atleast 10 salsas to choose from ranging from mild to very hot.
We also offer pickled onions, cabbage and other traditional toppings in this bar. Every salsa and topping available on our Salsa Bar is prepared fresh daily, by hand, in the individual restaurants.
When you walk up to the bar, you can smell the freshness and pungency of the peppers, the potency of our salsas and the aromas of traditional Mexican cuisine. Garnishes such as limes and fresh Pico can add a completely new and exciting taste profile to anything on our menu. We have salsas and toppings that compliment tacos, burritos, our large meat plates and everything else we offer. Help yourself to all the spice and flavor you can handle.
Tortillas Made To Order
As many restaurants get busy, they lose sight of the things that make them wonderful. Corners are cut and processes are shortened to increase profits. Taqueria Monterrey refuses to cut corners!
This way of lifeĀ can be seen every day in our hand made tortillas, made in small batches as we need them. Tortillas are not frozen, left overnight or made in an external factory. Everything that goes into our tortillas is fresh and they are pressed and cooked as needed. A window in our restaurants lets you see this process in action.
Because we produce these in small batches, your meal may take a little longer to cook. This is worth the wait! The extra few moments will be justified as soon as you bite into a crisp and flavorful Taqueria Monterrey tortilla. The light oils help crisp the shell slightly while preserving it’s natural taste and consistency. Whether you eat these shells by themselves, stuffed with meats and vegetables or to soak up salsa, you will agree that these are among the best tortillas you’ve ever tasted.
Al Pastor Grill
Anyone who has sampled meat prepared on our Al Pastor vertical grill has tasted hundreds of years of meat cooking tradition that can not be produced any other way. This meat, attached to the spinning vertical grill and slow cooked all day, is tender to the touch and smokey to the taste. The vertical grill cooking method allows direct slow heat using mezquite charcoal to roast the meat, creating a flavor profile that is both ancient and exotic. Once you’ve had Al Pastor, you may never want gas grilled meat again.
